How Online Admissions Are Changing Ghanaian Schools

For decades, admissions season at Ghanaian schools has looked much the same: parents queuing outside the school office clutching folders of birth certificates and transcripts, cash payments recorded in a ledger, and an admissions committee poring over paper applications late into the night to produce a shortlist.

That is starting to change. Schools that have moved to online admissions report two consistent benefits: dramatically less administrative burden, and a better experience for parents who no longer need to take time off work to physically submit an application.

The shift isn't only about convenience. Digital admissions data gives school leadership visibility they never had before — where in the funnel applicants are dropping off, which recruitment channels are actually bringing in enrolments, and how this year's applicant pool compares to previous years. That kind of insight simply doesn't exist when applications live in a filing cabinet.

There are real challenges to address, of course. Not every parent has reliable internet access, and schools need to keep an assisted application option available at the front desk for families who need it. The schools getting the most value from online admissions are the ones treating digital as the primary channel, not the only one.
